MEREDITH — Foliage Retrievers Service Dogs, a nonprofit dedicated to serving individuals with PTSD, is excited to announce the reopening of its applications for PTSD service dogs.
Prospective clients should carefully review the following requirements to determine if they align with the program's criteria. Eligibility criteria requires: documentation of treatment for PTSD for a minimum of one year; willingness to provide comprehensive financial support for the dog's well-being, including food, veterinary care, preventatives, vaccinations, routine check-ups, emergencies and maintaining insurance for the dog's health; a fenced, secure backyard; confirmation there are no other pets in the home; a home visit to ensure a safe and supportive environment; access to previous veterinary records and a reference from the applicant's veterinarian, if applicable; a demonstrated support network; commitment to a year-long, structured training program based in the Lakes Region; and acceptance of ongoing support and assessment.
