The "Great Fire of Lakeport 1903" will be featured at a joint meeting of the Laconia Historical -Museum Society and the Lakeport Community Association. The special program, which will include a slide presentation by Warren Huse of the conflagration that swept through the neighborhood on May 26, 1903, will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 12 at Leavitt Park.
The devastating inferno consumed 108 homes, two churches, two mills, two blacksmith shops, one electric plant and even a fire station. Miraculously, no lives were lost in the blaze which spanned only a few hours.
