The ladies of Meredith Curves and the youngsters of Girl Scout troop 1015 recently donated food and Girl Scout cookies to the Meredith Emergency Food Pantry to help bring “comfort and joy” to families in need this holiday season.
Curves began a food drive in early November, making one delivery the week before Thanksgiving and then continuing to collect for a second delivery the week before Christmas. “We try to keep the spirit of giving all year long at Curves,” said manager Robyn Piper, “because generosity shouldn’t be just a ‘Christmas thing.’” Piper says the ladies of Curves are always happy to help the local food pantry, with whom they’ve had a relationship for the past five years. The fitness center donates food from the Curves National Food Drive to the pantry each spring, and they also try to answer the call whenever they hear that the shelves are getting bare.
There is a history of cooperation between local Girl Scouts and Meredith Curves. Girl Scout troop leaders Holly Andrews and Barbara Jenkins, both members of Meredith Curves, have helped orchestrate Earth Day clean up projects with Girl Scouts and Curves members in the past. When the food collected at Curves was being delivered to the pantry, Jenkins added 12 cases of Girl Scout cookies to the collection. “It just shows what can be accomplished when women band together to help others,” Piper said of the collaborations between the Girl Scouts and Curves. “It’s a perfect display of ‘Girl Power’!”
