WEIRS BEACH — Following a fantastic kickoff event in July, the Weirs Community Park Association is excited to announce that the new Children’s Story Book Walk is officially open and ready for families to enjoy all season long. The interactive trail adventure will remain installed along the park’s walking paths through mid-October (Columbus Day Weekend).
The WCPA extends its sincere thanks to local author Andy Opel for joining the celebration, sharing his inspiration, and signing copies of his featured book, "The Weirs – A Winnipesaukee Adventure." He also talked a little about the newest book that just launched, called “The Treasure of Timber Island,” where kids unravel a local historical mystery and find out they are not the only ones trying to protect Lake Winnipesaukee’s natural beauty. The event brought community members together at the Weirs Community Park pavilion to celebrate lake traditions, reading, and the outdoors.

For families who couldn't attend the kickoff, the self-guided Story Book Walk is fully accessible during regular park hours:
- The experience: Pages of the book are displayed on signboards along an easy, family-friendly trail, allowing children to read page-by-page as they stroll
- Park amenities: Visitors are invited to make a day of it by taking advantage of the covered pavilion, picnic tables, and playground areas
- Admission: Free and open to the public
The trail begins right behind the Weirs Community Building at the outdoor pavilion: 49 Lucerne Ave., Laconia, and is open daily through mid-October.
