SANBORNTON — Wayne Snow, who researched the origin of the name well-known to Sanborntonites for a 100-plus years bridge – Mosquito — will present the intriguing bridge-story at the next meeting of the Sanbornton Historical Society, on Thursday, Aug. 8, at 7 p.m. The meeting is held at Lane Tavern, 520 Sanborn Road, Sanbornton Square.
Central to Snow’s talk will be antique paintings, intriguing themselves as historical records. All are invited for the presentation and to enjoy refreshments afterwards.
The bridge was first a wooden structure, but in late December 1915, the bridge collapsed into the water unexpectedly. Recovery of wreckage was the main concern. A new steel-span bridge was positioned by February 1916 and completed in June. The bridge id currently used daily.
