LAKEPORT — Roger L. Martel, 75, of Bell Street, passed away at home on April 18, 2026.

He was born Jan. 29, 1951, in Laconia, son of the late Aime Martel and Rachel (Guyer) Martel.

In 1981, Roger married Marguerite "Peggy" Fralick Martel. Every year Roger and Peggy would take their anniversary month of September to travel. Sometimes flipping a coin to determine their destination. They visited 35 states, including Alaska and Hawaii. They visited Newfoundland and celebrated their 25th anniversary in Costa Rica. Some of their most memorable trips were gold prospecting and camping in the mountains of Idaho.

In 2007, Roger retired from Verizon, where he worked as a lineman for many years. He then worked for Alamon testing poles for eight years. Following his retirement, Roger enjoyed monthly breakfasts with his fellow Verizon retirees. Sundays, however, were saved for watching NASCAR and other sporting events with his best bud, his brother Bob.

Roger will be missed by all who knew him.

Roger is survived by his wife Peggy, his cats sweet Sadie and hellcat Maxx, his brother Bob Martel, sister Luanne Kabachis and her husband Jan, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Roger was predeceased by his brothers, Dick Martel, Ken Martel and Pat Martel.

Following his wishes, there will be no calling hours.

A celebration of life will be held from noon until 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, at the Weirs Beach Community Center, 25 Lucerne Ave., Laconia.
