SANBORNTON — The Society for American Music is sponsoring one free public event per state this year to celebrate the U.S. 250th birthday — and the New Hampshire event is in the Lakes Region.
All are invited to a historical concert and sing along on the topic “Seeking the Roots of Gospel Music in New England.” This program, performed at the Mountain View Church, explores regional religious music and how it contributed to the gospel style many still enjoy. Dr. Chase Castle will accompany soprano Lily Hammond on the melodeon, a keyboard instrument popular in the 1800s, while musicologist Erin Fulton will explain the history behind the music.
This event will be at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 1, at 322 Upper Bay Road.
