PLYMOUTH — Join the Plymouth Historical Society in a nationwide reading of the Declaration of Independence on Wednesday, July 8, at 5:40 p.m. in front of Plymouth Town Hall. All 50 states and all U.S. territories are joining this synchronized reading.

Why July 8? On July 8, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was for the first time read out loud in multiple cities in the brand-new United States.

As the Declaration is read in Plymouth, others will be reading the Declaration in Guam, Illinois, California, and across the U.S. all at the same time. Plymouth is where it will happen in New Hampshire. Our newest state has organized the reading as part of their American250 Hawaii celebration.

Come listen to fife and drum music provided by two musicians from the New Hampshire Music Festival, starting at 5:40 p.m. Hear neighbors and friends read the words of the Declaration starting at 6 p.m. and join attendees to eat ice cream provided by M&M Scoops afterward.

The reading of the Declaration of Independence in Plymouth is organized by the Plymouth Historical Society and supported by New Hampshire Humanities as part of the US@250 Celebration.
