LACONIA — Mathew Paul Lagueux, 26, of Laconia, passed away on June 16, 2026, at Massachusetts General Hospital after a lifelong battle with cystic fibrosis. Though his journey was marked by challenges most could never imagine, he faced each day with remarkable courage, resilience, and a spirit that inspired everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Mathew was born on Oct. 11, 1999, in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of David Lagueux and Tracey Lagueux.
Mathew never allowed his illness to define him. Instead, he became known for his strength, determination, and unwavering kindness. He approached life with a grateful heart and a sense of humor that could brighten even the darkest days.
A devoted fan of the Baltimore Ravens, Mathew rarely missed a game and could often be found cheering passionately for his team every football season. Football was more than a pastime — it was a source of joy, excitement, and connection with friends and family. Whether discussing plays, celebrating victories, or looking forward to the next kickoff, his love for the game was infectious.
Mathew will be remembered for his heart of gold. He had a unique ability to make others feel valued, loved, and understood. His compassion knew no bounds, and he often put the needs of others before his own. Despite the obstacles he faced, he remained generous with his time, his encouragement, and his love.
He leaves behind a family who cherished him deeply, friends who became family, and countless others whose lives were touched by his warmth and kindness. He is survived by his parents, David and Tracey Lauguex; brother Mark Lauguex; sisters Melissa Fry, Nichole Fry, and Brittany Fry; nephews Laban, Joey and Jameson; nieces Ariel, Arianna, Kiah and Adrienne; cousins, and aunts and uncles. Mathew is predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Roland and Faxtar Lagueux.
While his time on Earth was far too short, the impact he made will endure forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
Though we grieve his loss, we also celebrate a life lived with extraordinary courage. He taught us that strength is not measured by the battles we face, but by the grace with which we face them. May we honor his memory by loving fiercely, cheering loudly, and living each day with the same courage and kindness that defined his life.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
