MEREDITH — The Lakes Region Symphony Orchestra will host their season-opening concert on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m. at Inter-Lakes Auditorium.

The winner of the student concerto and scholarship competition, pianist Penny Brant, will be featured in the concert. She will perform the first movement of Edvard Grieg’s “Piano Concerto No. 1 in A minor.”

The concerto competition is now entering its 10th year. More than 120 middle- and high-school students have auditioned to compete for scholarships and the opportunity to perform with the orchestra.

Brant was born in 2002 in Beijing, China, and at age 12 she moved to the U.S. and began to study piano with Gregg Pauley. Fluent in English and Chinese, she sees music as another language.
