MOULTONBOROURGH — The Moultonborough Heritage Commission will make a presentation on Monday, March 4, on “New Lives for Old Buildings: Redevelopment and Village Revitalization.” It will take place at 7 p.m. at the Moultonborough Public Library.

The program will explore the role that landmark historic buildings play in Main Street and village revitalization, and in retaining New Hampshire’s scenery and rural character. Saving community landmarks and maintaining small-town character are seen as essential in statewide efforts to attract investment, draw new residents and visitors, support local businesses, and promote economic vitality and year-round tourism.

Attendees will hear and discuss the proposal to rehabilitate the Taylor House to serve a new local retail business for home decor, furnishings, and antiques, returning the landmark house to the tax rolls and acting as a catalyst for other redevelopment projects. Reinvestment in the traditional village area is encouraged by the recommendations of the Village Vision Report 2015, and is a goal of the recently established Village Center Overlay District 2017.

The Taylor House redevelopment proposal is consistent with the community planning, economic development, and heritage goals for Moultonborough Village established through the Town’s Master Plan and by recent planning studies, including the 2015 Village Vision Report and the 2018 Charrette.

The program will look at recent examples of reinvestment in Tamworth and Wolfeboro. Andrew Cushing, field service representative for the New Hampshire Preservation Alliance, will moderate the discussion. This program is free and open to all.
