MEREDITH — Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing how one works, learns, communicates, and makes decisions — but with these advances come important ethical questions. Join the Meredith Public Library on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m. for "The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence," presented by philosophy professor Kiki Berk.
This timely program explores some of the most urgent moral challenges that artificial intelligence presents to society today. Topics will include automation and job displacement, deepfakes and misinformation, the role of AI in education, implicit bias, autonomous systems such as self-driving cars and drones, and the ethical implications of a potential technological singularity.
Following a brief introduction to applied ethics and the technology behind generative AI, Berk will examine each of these issues, highlighting the core moral questions they raise and their significance for developing thoughtful policies and regulations. The program will conclude with an open discussion, giving attendees an opportunity to share their perspectives and ask questions.
Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of the ethical landscape surrounding AI and practical tools for thinking critically about how this rapidly evolving technology may affect individuals and society in the years ahead.
Berk is a professor of philosophy at Southern New Hampshire University. She received her Ph.D. in philosophy from VU University Amsterdam in 2010. Her current research interests include the philosophy of death and the philosophy of meaning in life.
The program is free and open to the public, and is made possible through a grant from New Hampshire Humanities and with support from the Friends of the Meredith Library.
