MANCHESTER — Luke Martin Rumley, 49, of Cartier Street, passed away on Oct. 14, 2026.
Luke was born on July 21, 1977, in Winchester, Massachusetts, the son of Stephen Rumley and Mary “Penny” (Burke) Rumley.
Luke loved the outdoors. In his youth he could always be found playing in the woods behind his house or having camping adventures with family and friends. He also spent many summers at Camp Mi-Te-Na on Half-Moon Lake in Alton, with his childhood friend Eric. He played baseball for the Gilford Youth Little League, soccer for Gilford High School and was a competitive swimmer for the Lakes Region Wavemakers. His favorite stroke was the butterfly. He also loved playing the drums for the school band and in high school he joined the French Club and enjoyed a trip to France, with his classmates.
Luke graduated from Gilford High School in 1996. Soon after he spent a short time as a student at an aeronautical tech school in New York State. He held varied jobs throughout the years but at the time of his passing, Luke was a union carpenter for North and South Construction and he absolutely loved his job. He found a true home and family here for the past seven years. He was a proud member of Local 352-Carpenters Union in New Hampshire, which falls under the jurisdiction of the N. Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters (NASRCC). He believed there was no better construction company than North and South Construction. Their building projects kept him busy over the years, sending him to job sites in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. He also enjoyed woodworking, working on creative projects in the basement, watching movies, playing chess, living in New Hampshire, and shooting off fireworks in the backyard.
Luke faced many struggles throughout his life, but ultimately found great peace and happiness in recent years through his relationship with his fiancée Julie Wright, his daughter Sophia, his dog Koda and his job at North and South Construction. Julie was his anchor and soulmate. They were planning to get married in the summer of 2027. As he grew older, he also became more spiritual and introspective about his life and committed himself to a private practice of meditation and prayer. He also found peace in the solitude of the woods and often took his daughter on walks there.
Luke is survived by his parents; fiancée Julie Wright; daughter Sophia Rumley; stepson Mason Gatanti; sisters Corinne Rumley and Lauren Rumley; many uncles, aunts and cousins; and his beloved dog Koda. Luke is predeceased by his late wife, Jammie (Livingston) Rumley, who passed in 2016.
