LACONIA — The Laconia Human Relations Committee is hosting their annual celebration of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to honor his life and legacy, on Sunday, Jan. 15, at the Belknap Mill, starting at 2 p.m.

This year’s celebration will include a month-long exhibit in the Belknap Art Gallery of local artists sharing their original creations inspired by Dr. King’s ministry of racial equality and social justice for all. Local artists, whose works are in this exhibit, share their thoughts about their works at the celebration including how their artistic creation was inspired by the life and work of Dr. King.

The artists who will present are Mike Durkee, Elaine Morrison, Chloe Sofronas, Jaylene Bengston, Ian Raymond, A. E. Brown, Dick Smith and Priscilla Bodwell.

The celebration will commence with a viewing of an excerpt of Dr. King’s “I Have A Dream” speech. A diverse array of cultural food and refreshments. 

All of the art will be on display in the Belknap Mill Gallery from through Jan. 31. The public is encouraged to come see the artwork anytime during the month. The Belknap Mill operating hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
