BELMONT — Belmont Middle School’s golf coach, Diane Dyke, teaches 5th through 8th graders the basic techniques and etiquette rules of golf. The kids learn to play a lifelong sport just for fun or develop the skills to play golf competitively at the high school level or even earn a college golf scholarship if they choose that path. Coach Dyke says her aim is to help kids develop self confidence and learn the rewards of working at a skill. She adds, “the players can get discouraged but then they make a long putt or hit that perfect drive and they smile from ear to ear.” “There were even a few birdies made this year.”

The team plays at Bolduc Park. According to Coach Dyke, Bolduc Park’s size and relaxed atmosphere is a perfect place for kids to learn to play golf. In addition to offering their facility to the Belmont Middle School golf team, Bolduc Park offers adult and youth golf and cross country ski lessons. Full youth scholarships are offered for kids who would otherwise not be able to afford lessons thanks to a grant from The Greater Lakes Region Children’s Auction. Send an email to golf@bolducpark.com requesting more information on lessons.
