MEREDITH  The Meredith Public Library continues its America 250 series with “Unpacking the Declaration of Independence.”

Presented by David Alcox, this engaging program will explore the text of the Declaration of Independence, the key figures behind its creation, and the influence of Enlightenment philosophy on the document and the founding of the United States. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of what the Declaration actually says, the ideals it promotes, and whether those values remain relevant today.

The program offers an unbiased examination of the Declaration of Independence and encourages participants to think critically about the document and its lasting impact on American society. Attendees will leave with greater historical context and the confidence to discuss the principles and ideas contained within one of the nation’s most important founding documents.

Presenter David Alcox taught civics at Milford High School for 25 years. He earned his master’s degree in teaching social studies from Indiana University Bloomington in 2006. Throughout his career, Alcox has received numerous honors and awards, including being named New Hampshire State Teacher of the Year three times, National Civics Teacher of the Year twice, recipient of the 2000 New Hampshire James Madison Fellowship, and the 2013 Milford Citizen of the Year.

This event will be on Thursday, May 21, at 6 p.m. at the Meredith Public Library at 91 Main St. The program is free and open to the public. For more information, visit Meredith Public Library or call the library at 603-279-4303.
