MEREDITH — Gleaning is the act of collecting excess fresh produce from local farms, gardens, farmers markets, and providing to those in need. One in seven in N.H. do not know where their next meal will come from. In the U.S. about 40% of all food goes to waste while almost 50 million Americans cannot access adequate nutrition.
For over 16 years Moulton Farm in Meredith has given fresh produce to local nonprofits in the Lakes Region. The Meredith Altrusa Club has partnered with Moulton Farm and have been packing and distributing boxes and boxes of fresh vegetables each week to several local organizations such as the Moultonborough Meals on Wheels located at the Lions Club in Moultonborough, the Meredith Food Pantry, Restoration Acres and the Meredith Calvary Bible Church.
Moulton also has a share program whereby local customers pay a certain amount in the fall for baskets of vegetables in the summer.Â
