A video of a potential UFO, shaped like an eight-pointed star, that the White House posted Monday has caused online debate.
On Friday, President Donald Trump announced an order to begin releasing files related to what are now known as Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP).
The process, officially called the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters (PURSUE), includes pictures and videos captured by both military and civilian sources.
However, the White House has now focused on a video showing the mysterious star shape in flight. The unusual shape appears to fly around the frame, before exiting at speed seemingly upwards.
The White House posted Monday: "The United States Central Command submitted a report of an unidentified anomalous phenomenon to the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) consisting of one minute and 46 seconds of video footage from an infrared sensor aboard a U.S. military platform in 2013. The reporter did not provide any oral or written description of the observation."
In the file, the video is officially described as depicting "an area of contrast resembling an eight-pointed star with arms of alternating length."
Online reaction has centered on what the video could show, with one U.S. congresswoman, Anna Paulina Luna, simply posting an artist's impression seemingly drawing a comparison to a cherubim, referenced in the Bible as a powerful, complex celestial being. Although not posted with any comment, it followed her multiple reposts of messages related to the UAP file release.

Other comments on X have ranged from fascination with the unexplained video to those dismissing it as having a real-world explanation.
One user posted "This one blows my mind a bit! Why is it shaped like that? Light glare?", while another wrote "This is an infrared video showing a descending parachute flare with an exhaust plume behind it. The star figure is how a very brightly burning flare appears on IR film. Nothing to see here, folks."
The Department of War said Friday: "The American people have asked for more transparency on these topics, and President Trump is delivering. While all of the files have been reviewed for security purposes, many of the materials have not yet been analyzed for resolution of any anomalies."
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth added: "The Department of War is in lockstep with President Trump to bring unprecedented transparency regarding our government's understanding of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena. These files, hidden behind classifications, have long fueled justified speculation — and it's time the American people see it for themselves. This release of declassified documents demonstrates the Trump Administration's earnest commitment to unprecedented transparency."
