NHBM to host Winnipesaukee Art, Galleries of Meredith for reception

MOULTONBOROUGH — Winnipesaukee Art, Galleries of Meredith, a collaborative group of eight Meredith-area galleries, will be featured at the New Hampshire Boat Museum artist reception on Thursday, Sept. 3, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. More than a dozen artists will be in attendance to represent their galleries at the event.

“About a year ago, we decided to put a group together to do collaborative events and build a sense of community,” said Vynnie Hale, former owner of The Galleries at 30 Main.

The eight galleries represented at the reception include: Art of Turning at 5 Main St.; Jeremy Noyes Gallery at 23 Main St.; Acacia Coll Gallery and Art School at 30 Main St.; Bleu Waves Art Gallery at 38 Main St.; Artistic Exploration at 51 Main St.; Hale & Moreau Gallery at 4 Water St.; BayView Artisan Gallery at 285 Daniel Webster Hwy; and Meredith Fine Craft Gallery at 279 Daniel Webster Hwy.

Some galleries represent a single artist, while others represent many — Acacia Cole and BayView each feature about 30 artists. Most of the artists are from New England, with many working in local subject matter such as lake and boat scenes, landscapes, and other regional imagery. Mediums represented across the galleries include painting, photography, wood turning, sculpture, prints, and workshops.

“It's a combination — we're promoting each of our galleries,” Hale said. “We'll be both representing individual galleries plus the Winnipesaukee Art Group. A couple of artists started in my gallery and now have their own.”

He said the collaborative approach has been “rewarding” for the participating galleries. “Community is the most important part,” he said. “Rather than work against each other, we might as well all promote each other — we're in this together. It's a cool feeling.”

Hale also praised NHBM for providing an opportunity for artists to gain exposure.

"NHBM is so accommodating, and they put on a really great show,” he added. “We see people at that event we've never seen before. This is a great opportunity to introduce our galleries to the local population.”

Featuring light appetizers and wine, the “Artist Reception — Winnipesaukee Art, Galleries of Meredith” is free and open to the public.
