WOLFEBORO — When the world’s elite water skiers arrive in Back Bay to compete in the World Water Skiers Granite Cup July 10-11, the Maxfield Real Estate team will be supporting the event as a sponsor — and celebrating a local tradition that began in 1959.
“We are avid fans of the Abenaki Ski Club and were excited when we heard they would be hosting the World Water Skiers Granite Cup right here in our backyard,” said Jon Parker, who owns Maxfield Real Estate along with his father, Randy Parker. “The Ski Club began in 1959, and Maxfield was founded in 1954, so our organizations have grown together through the generations. It just made sense that Maxfield would sponsor this incredible event coming to Wolfeboro for the first time."
Free and family-friendly, the competition will feature pro slalom, trick, and jump contests for men and women.
Parker noted Maxfield’s agents live, work, volunteer, and raise their families in the Lakes Region, which is why the agency prioritizes supporting and celebrating Wolfeboro and neighboring communities. But the connection goes even deeper. The late Chip Maxfield, son of Maxfield Real Estate’s founder, was an avid water skier in the Back Bay.
“We’re proud to bear the Maxfield name and to honor Chip’s love of the water-skiing community,” Parker said.
One of Maxfield’s agents, Jen McCullough, has spent decades skiing on Winnipesaukee’s waters, and now specializes in island properties. Residents can see her zipping around the lake on one ski.
“I have loved water skiing here since I was 7 years old,” McCullough said, “and I’m really looking forward to the Granite Cup."
Spectators can view the ski course and jump from the Cotton Valley Rail Trail, and should bring a lawn chair or a picnic blanket. The WWS Granite Cup begins Friday, July 10, with a preliminary competition from noon to 6 p.m. The finals happen from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, with the awards ceremony immediately afterward.
