To The Daily Sun,
I read Richard Littlefield's endorsement letter and found it ironic that he urges voters to support candidates with "no agenda" while offering a highly partisan political endorsement.
Voters should consider the source. Mr. Littlefield served only a single term as a state representative before voters chose a different direction. That fact alone suggests his judgment and political instincts have not exactly been embraced by the electorate.
What many residents also find curious is Mr. Littlefield's political evolution. For years he aligned himself with some of the most outspoken Republican positions. Today he has become a vocal supporter of Democratic candidates. Everyone has the right to change their views, but voters also have the right to question whether these changes reflect principle or political opportunism.
Rather than focusing on Mr. Littlefield's latest endorsement, voters should focus on results. Which candidates have shown up for the community? Which candidates have delivered for taxpayers, promoted responsible government, and remained accountable to the people they represent?
Mr. Littlefield's endorsement says more about his own search for political relevance than it does about the qualifications of the candidates he supports. After an unsuccessful legislative career and years of shifting political allegiances, he appears to have found himself without a true political home, embraced by neither Republicans nor Democrats as a leading voice.
The voters of Laconia and Belknap County are smart enough to make their own decisions based on facts, records, and performance, not on the opinions of a former one-term politician attempting to remain in the public spotlight. I will vote for all the Republican state representative candidates.
