To The Daily Sun,

This letter is related to a recent WMUR report (Oct. 20) pertaining to New Hampshire seniors and imminent changes to their Medicare Advantage plans starting in 2025. The state insurance commissioner and a certified Medicare agent were apparently surprised by this news ... really? Why? They say they have just been hearing about it in the last three or four weeks.

Well, we received a letter Sept. 30, regarding our supplement plan. We enrolled in a plan that provided a contractual agreement for a three-year rate guarantee carrying us through 2025. The letter goes on to say that, despite our legal contract, “there is language that allows for a change in the event of federal legislation.” Therefore, our guaranteed rate is increasing by 25.2% for the final year. It goes on to explain that “this adjustment is due to the Inflation Reduction Act."

Huh, like the Affordable Care Act, this was a bill that had to be passed in order to see what’s in it.

So now, seniors have to start searching for another possible plan and who knows what the rate might be. While they’re making these calls why not contact our congressional and senatorial "misrepresentatives." Oh wait ... they left D.C. on Sept. 30, and don’t return until Nov. 12. If readers are lucky enough to reach any of them ask them about health care carve out they received ... paid for by taxpayers.

And the third rail of this issue is that as readers pay their monthly premiums they will be patiently waiting the 6-8 months to see their doctor, an issue that has recently been a focus in this forum.
