To The Daily Sun,

With increasing traffic during the summer season, I'd like to remind people who walk or ride wheeled vehicles (bicycles, minibikes and scooters) of a few simple safety points that could help avoid serious injury.

Please remember that all pedestrians, children and adults (who should know better) need to walk on the left-hand side of the road facing traffic if there is no sidewalk. Riders of wheeled vehicles should ride on the right side of the road with traffic and should not be riding on the sidewalk. There are too many distracted drivers and electric vehicles that people can't hear approaching. When walking, it's important to know what may be coming at them so they can get out of harm's way if needed. Wheeled riders should stay to the right side of the road and be aware of what is behind them so they can also take evasive action if needed. Wearing bright colored clothing, reflective clothing and a light source while walking or riding when the sun goes down are all ways to help ensure walkers will be seen. Let's all stay safe and have a fun-filled summer.
