To The Daily Sun,
It is a challenge and an important time to be informed and involved and to see the very real threat to our democracy. Fortunately, our forefathers gave us a Declaration of Independence and a Constitution which guarantee our rights, values, and responsibilities. The most important right we have is to vote.
Remember who said, “If you vote for me, you’ll never have to vote again?” That person is working mightily to make that happen. Many legal judgments have been ignored or delayed, much overreach of presidential power, acts of war without congressional approval, seeking voter information from states for personal use, using ICE to terrify people and raise unrest, and planning to prevent the next election.
There was a recent report by Paula Tracey of InDepthNH.org of a meeting between State Attorney General John Formella and the governor and Executive Council. The governor said, “We cooperate very well and share information to protect officers. What you see happening elsewhere is not happening here because we have that communication.” What we have seen since the beginning of ICE operations is a total disregard of our laws. People were rounded up without regard of citizenship or a warrant, forced into chains and bent over at the waist, sent to prisons in El Salvador to be tortured and abused every day. These things have continued. ICE forced their way into homes, took people from schools, hospital, churches, and put them in holding cells, moving them around so that they cannot be found. Today ICE grabs people without a warrant or regard for citizenship and forces them to the ground, chokes them, sprays them, and on occasion shoots them. Our citizens are terrified. This is about all human beings having a right in our country to be treated legally.
