To The Daily Sun,

In response to Christine Wittmann in Alton's letter comparing Liz Truss' acceptance speech to Joe Biden's horrendous one recently, I'd like to offer a small fact check.

I concur with her opinion.

The fact is that the British people did not hold an election and vote her in. It was a voting opportunity only given to members of her own party, the Conservative party — 172,000 dues-paying members. She was chosen to be the new Conservative leader and automatically became prime minister as the Conservative party currently holds the majority in the U.K. parliament.

She must hold a general election no later than Jan. 24, 2025, and can call an election anytime she chooses between now and then.

The queen held all executive powers between the time the queen accepted Boris Johnson's resignation and the time she formally asked Truss to form a government.

In light of Her Majesty's recent passing and as a born-and-raised British citizen, I would be remiss not to mention I believe the world has lost a leader who served and lived with grace and dignity and cared deeply for her country and commitment to duty like no other. She set the bar high.
