Raymond Harold Tilton, 67, of Tilton, passed away peacefully at his home on March 7, 2026. He was born in Laconia, on Feb. 2, 1959, to Harold Tilton Jr. and Lillian (Durgin) Tilton, who preceded him in death.
Ray grew up in Tilton and Sanbornton, spending many days on his Uncle Glenn’s farm helping with haying and caring for the animals. He shared his childhood with his two older sisters and many cousins, forming close family bonds and lasting memories.
He graduated from Winnisquam High School in 1977, and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1977 to 1981, often recalling fond memories of his time stationed in Germany. Ray worked for many years with the Tilton & Northfield Aqueduct Company, where he became well known in the community and formed many lifelong friendships.
An avid outdoorsman in his younger years, Ray enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. In retirement, he loved classic television shows and movies, and cherished time with his family. His daughters remember countless games of cribbage and backgammon shared together.
Ray is survived by his daughters, Melissa (Tilton) Leslie and her husband Chad, and Stacey (Tilton) Nguyen and her husband Dave; his grandchildren, Timmy and Naomi Nguyen, all of North Carolina; his sisters, Ruth (Tilton) Walter and her husband Richard, and Susan (Tilton) Dupuis and her husband Paul, all of New Hampshire; and nieces and nephews.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to his loving neighbors, caretakers, and the Franklin VNA and Hospice for their compassionate care.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at noon on Monday, June 8, at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Franklin VNA in Ray’s memory.
