The City of Franklin and Franklin citizens deserve better.
The July 16 Franklin City Council Workshop went awry from a typical process when voting to replace a recently retired council member.
How the mayor and council proceeded with getting the seat filled may not have been deemed illegal or may not have broken any rules. They did disrespect Franklin citizens from Ward 1 who independently stepped forward to submit their applications for consideration for the vacant seat.
The candidates barely got a name mention when nominated. No time was even offered for individual presentations or council members’ discussion.
As Franklin citizens, we need to demand better in future processes.
