To The Daily Sun,
New Hampshire as a state and at the city and town levels is at the cusp of a crisis trying to fund public education. Our Republican-controlled legislature seems hell bent on reducing, and even eliminating, long-standing sources of revenue. On top of that, the Education Freedom Account Program (aka the Voucher Program) continues to siphon off more and more tax dollars that should be going to public education and not going to private, religious and home-schooling. While this is happening, costs continue to rise and those costs are being passed down from the state to our cities and towns. When that happens, property taxes go up.
If taxpayers like to better understand how NH funds public education, how recent court cases impacts that process and learn about fairer ways to fund and keep a quality public educational system in our state, come to the public forum, organized by several concerned citizens happening on Thursday, Feb. 19, at 6 p.m. at Laconia High School.
Sign up to attend at fairfundingnh.org/events. Questions can be submitted at sign-up, or taken at the event as well.
