Rep David Nagel: Bipartisan coalition has potential to bridge gap, create meaningful policy

I would like to thank all my friends in Gilmanton, Gilford, and Ward 2 of Laconia for reelecting me to represent them in the New Hampshire House of Representatives. This is truly an honor; one I don’t take lightly.

While some Democrats fear a perceived coming political apocalypse and some Republicans applaud a perceived mandate, the reality is closer to a theme I have stating for years, one related best by Sen. Joe Manchin when he said that 51% of Americans feel that neither party represents their needs. He implied this election was a course correction, that those currently in power were not listening and were not meeting their needs. A change was needed, and that was what the outcome of this election was really about. I would state this is not a mandate. It is incumbent on all of us in the political hierarchy to listen to this very loud message.

I am honored that we achieved my election outcome by creating a bipartisan coalition which has the potential to bridge that gap and create meaningful policy that will benefit all of us.

There is a lot to do. My goal is to save a health care system from the excesses of the medical-industrial complex with a focus on the social determinants of health including access to health care, housing, education, family stability, physical fitness, mental health care, addiction care, and others. This is a broad endeavor and is only the start of what I hope to do.
