R. Paul Weston: Democracy may collapse from allegiance to the new ‘king’

To The Daily Sun,

As I mount our beautiful American flag on the front of my house each sunny morning, I say a silent prayer for the continuance of our precious democracy — long may the red, white and blue wave on high o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

In the distance, I hear the whining of the highway traffic — truckers transporting cargo, people hurrying off to work, and school buses carrying our students off to their classes. And I wonder if our democracy, our centuries old USA, will still exist when our children reach voting age.

I believe that the end of our country will not come from foreign shores. It will collapse from decay, neglect and ignorance from within. The end will occur when we tolerate an incompetent, aging, and severely flawed sitting president. The collapse will be seen when federal secretaries (heads of departments) are totally incompetent, bent on only allegiance to the "king" and creating instability, avoidance of intended constitutional governmental purposes and laws, and daily the dismantling our federal government.

And finally the state of collapse will happen as an entire nationally elected political party is silent, too afraid to take any action on impeachable actions emanating from the White House. Our wonderful and beautiful nation will cease to exist when our citizens — the truckers, businessmen and school bus drivers are too occupied earning a living and assuming our representatives and senators in Washington must be taking care of our business, for they have done it now for 249 years. How bad can this crisis, this governmental upset, the blip in our history be?

I fear the end will be abrupt and bloody and so avoidable.
