To The Daily Sun,
A prominent historian observed: "In the future, men will thank God on their knees that Franklin Delano Roosevelt was president during World War II."
Will historians of the future say anything similar about the corona pandemic and Donald J. Trump in the White House?
As China moves beyond what Trump still insists on calling "the China virus" (at a recent press conference where he also pointed to assembled reporters and called them "The fake news establishment" — how statesmanlike, at a time of crisis!). Trump both congratulated himself for his fine leadership, and recognized that USA is far and away number one in the world in coronavirus infections.
This dubious distinction adds to our "Wall of Shame" as the largest debtor nation in world history, the highest per capita medical costs in the world, etc. — even as countries like Taiwan and China send massive donations to bail out safety device-poor USA.
China and Taiwan, etc. had far, far fewer total corona cases than USA now has — and we are not done growing yet. These countries had proper preparations in place, and moved swiftly and surely at first signs of epidemic — rather than a reluctant, head in the sand, business as usual mentality — which doubtless will cause avoidable American deaths. Taiwan and China took the bitter shutdown medicine decisively early on. Now China's tourist attractions are reopened and packed, business is returning to normal, etc.
I will pray on my knees tonight for wisdom, leadership, and courage in Washington D.C.
