To The Daily Sun,
I am grateful for the unanimous support of the Gilford Selectboard for the Home Possible Project. The Home Possible Project is a nonprofit organization with a mission to create supportive housing opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities in the lakes region of New Hampshire.
According to the information provided by the town, “This article is intended to constitute a generous and charitable commitment from the town towards the construction of a non-profit housing project for developmentally disabled adults with appropriate restrictions and conditions to ensure it is not used for any other purpose. This land abuts Route 11A, Alvah Wilson Road and Sprucewood Drive.”
In a moment when many of our elected leaders in Washington refuse to get anything done, it is wonderful to live in a community that takes seriously the welfare of everyone, especially those on the margins. I am proud of our town employees and all our elected officials.
Thirty-five years ago, the town sold what was then the Gilford Town Hall and Police Station to the Gilford Community Church for $1. That building became known as the Wixson Community Center and is the home of the Village Nursery School.
Our campus, which includes the Gilford Community Church, the Gilford Youth Center, and the Wixson Community Center, alongside our wonderful neighbors, the Gilford library, have become a vital hub for community activities. Each week hundreds of individuals and dozens of community groups access these facilities. Today it is hard to imagine Gilford without these community treasures. It is entirely possible that this important transformation was triggered by the thoughtful and generous action of our town and church leaders four decades ago.
Join my wife, Cindie, and me in supporting Warrant Article 27.
