Michael Breen: Connecticut AG has distorted understanding of the law

Not unlike the moral in admiring the king's new clothes, Connecticut is leading the Woke parade in its resistance to the rule of law while simultaneously claiming it is not a "sanctuary state." Its Attorney General William Tong has long avoided the core issue inherent in the aftermath of unprecedented illegal immigration unlawfully facilitated by his political party. The authorities and responsibilities of the United States government, as limited as they are precise, are clearly articulated in our Constitution alongside centuries of case law. Accordingly, the supremacy clause of our Constitution is in sharp contrast with Tong’s distorted views on both legal and ethical fronts. In times of genuine (or in Tong’s case — conjured) tensions, between dual state and federal citizen obligations, our citizens' chief responsibility is to abide by this legal standard of limited but unambiguous federal areas of authority. Why? Absent this rational separation of powers (enshrined with the sacrifice of 740 thousand lost American lives in our Civil War), if the state’s rights eclipse rationally limited federal law, the power-grasping political chaos Tong promotes will destroy our country. Tong does not seem to recognize what Americans fully understand. When President Abraham Lincoln promised that our government "of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth” the “people” he was referring to were Americans — not exploited illegal aliens unlawfully settled in our country for corrupt political gain. Unfortunately, as with others bent on destroying America's rule of law, Tong has long been at odds with this reality.
