To The Daily Sun,
As a candidate in Belknap District 4, I recently completed the Citizens for Belknap candidate questionnaire, and I want to encourage every candidate seeking office in Belknap County to do the same.
The questionnaire challenged me to look more deeply at issues affecting our county and my community. While I’ve entered this campaign with ideas and an understanding for many topics, answering the questions required additional research and helped me better understand the decisions our elected officials make on behalf of residents — particularly at the county level.
I believe that was a valuable exercise — not just for me as a candidate, but also for the voters I hope to represent.
The questionnaire provides voters an opportunity to learn where candidates stand on important issues in their own words. Whether someone agrees with my answers or not, they deserve to know that I took the time to think through the questions, research the issues, and provide thoughtful responses.
An informed electorate is essential to a healthy democracy. I hope every candidate will complete the Citizens for Belknap questionnaire so voters can compare perspectives, understand priorities, and make the most informed decision possible this November.
