To The Daily Sun,
I strongly recommend that everyone vote no on Question 2 on Nov. 3.
Readers have probably seen signs urging yes votes on this measure to “cap property taxes,” and everyone in New Hampshire is rightfully angry about soaring property taxes.
However, Question 2 is a scam created by the Free Staters who caused our property taxes to rise by over 47% from 2016 to 2025, which when adjusted for inflation, is an increase of over 12%. Free Stater-aligned legislators have downshifted over $3 billion in costs to the towns over the last decade, which have led to NH having the fourth highest property taxes in the nation while also being dead last in state support for public education.
Question 2 is a sneak attack on public schools. It’s also an attack on local control of our schools. The voters in each town vote on the school budget every year. I served on the Gilford School Board for nine years and know that caps on budgets can hamstring a school district’s ability to react to unforeseen expenses. One-size-fits-all “caps” on budgets are just another problem for our towns and schools, not a solution.
Towns do not need another mandate from the state. We need the money that the state is required to provide by our NH Constitution. We need common-sense bipartisan solutions to fund our schools without bankrupting ordinary families.
We must fight the Free State agenda in NH. That’s why I am running for the State Senate in District 2 (Ashland, Belmont, Campton, Center Harbor, Gilford, Holderness, Laconia, Meredith, New Hampton, Sanbornton, Sandwich and Thornton).
Please vote for me and no on Question 2 to bring back reasonable, responsible governance in New Hampshire.
