To The Daily Sun
I am writing to respond to the letter by Greg Hough, Laconia candidate for N.H. House of Representatives. He writes that government overreach is at an unparalleled, unprecedented level not seen in his lifetime. I thoroughly agree. I woke up this morning and was shocked to learn the whole state of California is now on lock down, with people being told to stay in the house.
Mr. Hough states that our governor has no constitutional authority to shut down businesses. And that doing so and limiting gatherings to under 50 people puts a serious burden on the constitutional rights of free speech, assembly and petitioning for redress of grievances.
There are people in this country, and I am one of them, who believe this whole "emergency" may have been created by the globalists as a test run to find out just how willing we are to be herded like sheep and told what to do. It's scary how quickly and easily we have fallen in line. Covid19 has infected and killed far fewer people in our country so far than the flu kills every year.
Michael Savage, whose radio program I listen to, is a trained epidemiologist. He reported the other night that there are signs this virus may have been engineered. If it was, it was done for a reason.
I am grateful to Mr. Hough for his warning to us at a time when we really need it. I am not a resident of Laconia, but if I were I would cast my vote for him. Our Statehouse needs someone like him who still has common sense. I hope he wins.

Ms. Goldstein, Mr. Hough:
I suggest you watch this video. Understanding exponential growth and “flattening the curve.” Pay particular attention to the last couple minutes when they talk about Philadelphia vs. St. Louis during the 1918 influenza pandemic.

Today (3/22/20):
-Italy: reports its biggest one-day jump in deaths: In the past 24 hours, Italy recorded 793 deaths, meaning 4,825 people there have now died from coronavirus, according to the Italian authorities. That’s an almost 20 percent increase on the day before, and is the biggest one-day spike since the outbreak began. A least 53,578 have contracted the virus in Italy.
-Germany: The number of coronavirus cases has increased by 1,948 in the past 24 hours to 18,610
-Spain: Almost 25,000 cases have been reported in total, with a drastic spike of 5,000 new cases reported on Saturday.

We live together on an interconnected globe. If you've ever eaten food or purchased a product not made in your backyard or NH (worthy goals to produce and support local but even if we maximize jobs and production in our country, we are still reliant on supply and talent from other regions/nations) then you are part of our global community. BTW I opposed NAFTA from day 1 (I was at UNH at the time, we educated the public and lobbied our congresspeople HARD against it) because it gave too much to profit-minded CEOs and risked good US jobs, but I believe that some international trade benefits humanity.
We are all in this together and need to get through this together. Those who can should isolate as much as possible and those who are essential personnel should do their jobs as best as possible/try to do without exposing others.
I share your concerns about civil liberties - these are unifying concerns regardless of your politics otherwise. No one likes to see a "papers please" world. But when we need to do so temporarily to prevent millions of people in my own country and around the world from dying, I will temporarily agree to curbing of some of these fundamental rights of travel and assembly.
Countries that have got it under control (China, Russia, Cuba) are sending healthy doctors to help in places that are in panic mode. It's a beautiful thing. So, unless you are pulling healthy doctors, nurses, masks, and ventilators out of your behind, you should be grateful to them.
