To The Daily Sun,
With so many things to follow in politics, from energy and taxes to foreign policy and world peace to Democrats and Republicans, it is easy to get caught up in all the hoopla, all the time. One can be consumed by social issues, and rights for different groups, and often we have adversarial views of those who may differ from our own positions.
I would like to share an observation I have had of the last 10 years. When Democrats held the presidency (Barack Obama, Joe Biden) there was a general malaise in the local area. Properties were in a slow but steady state of disrepair. People had a hard time making ends meet. Necessities like gas and food were expensive, making us stress over choices like eating or paying for the kid’s activities. Vacations were out of the question, and the view of the future was questionable at best. People started to be “preppers” and were really worried about the coming years.
When Republicans held the presidency (Donald Trump), and I can only speak for myself, I have the money to fix up my home. I can afford paint and grass seed to make my place look nice. I can afford to go out to eat from time to time. We can plan and take vacations, and I am not prepping for the collapse of society but instead I’m working toward goals for our family’s future. I can put gas in the tank and not worry if I can put food on the table. I generally feel good about the future, and I am proud to live in the USA, enough that I can plant a flagpole in the yard to waive old glory and New Hampshire state flag. In short, things are better with Republicans than with Democrats.
