BELMONT — A Ford Explorer crossed into the opposing lane on Monday, hitting a truck head-on and sending the two drivers to area hospitals.

The Belmont Police Department received a call at 7:33 a.m. on March 16, during the morning commute, for a report of a car crash on Laconia Road, just north of Plummer Hill Road. Upon arrival, officers determined the two vehicles had hit head on.

A Ram pickup truck, operated by a male driver, was traveling northbound, while the Ford Explorer was traveling southbound, and the female driver of the SUV allegedly veered into the oncoming lane before the crash.

The SUV driver was transported to Concord Hospital-Concord with serious injuries, while the pickup driver was transported to Concord Hospital-Laconia for non-life-threatening injuries.

The roadway was reopened roughly an hour later.

The Belmont Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Belmont Fire Department, the Belknap County Sheriff’s Department and Laconia Public Works.

This incident remains under investigation, and those with more information are urged to contact the Belmont Police Department’s Det. Nancy Hicks by calling 603-267-8351.
