Gerald Guest: Government should let locals handle transgender athletes

Gov. Chris Sununu was featured in an article in the Oct. 19, 2024, Laconia Sun regarding transgender athletes. He really should stay out of how locals are handling this mess that the Legislature and he created. Nothing was broken and he and the others have no expertise in this situation. Everyday life has been coping with the transgender issue since Pilgrims got off the boat. Like the human reproductive system, the government should stay out of it. The governor is quoted as saying that he knew the courts would have to settle this transgender issue when he signed the bill. Maybe it was time to pause and reevaluate. Seems like he and the Legislature got up one morning and said, "let's dump on some teen girls." Never mind that the girls might already have tough emotional issues to deal with. Shame on New Hampshire government. The governor seems to be searching for something. One might guess that the Donald Trump effect has colored his life and many others. I saw an ad in The Sun this week by the NH Republican Committee, outlining their goals. It is pretty general. They don't know what to say before the election. It is the Trump effect. Republican politicians seem to be picking their words carefully. They don't have a good leader anymore. I liked Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton and George Bush and Barack Obama. We can do what our country needs in November.

I will vote for Vice President Kamala Harris and Mayor Joyce Craig.
