LACONIA — A police chase ended in a crash and charges against a driver from Belmont on Friday, according to State Police.

At 11 p.m. on Jan. 23, State Trooper Thomas Seager of the Troop E barracks attempted to stop a blue Hyundai Sonata for a driving violation in Laconia. When the driver refused to stop, Seager pursued the car.

Troopers followed the Hyundai through Laconia and Gilford, before the pursuit returned to Laconia, and ended when the driver — later identified as Andrew J. Decormier, 33, of Belmont — crashed into a telephone pole on Bowman Street.

During the chase, Decormier apparently struck Seager’s cruiser, causing minor damage to the vehicle.

Decormier was taken into custody and Troopers discovered he had an outstanding warrant for violating probation, Decormier was charged with reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, disobeying a police officer, driving after losing his license and other motor vehicle offenses.

He was held at the Belknap County jail pending a formal reading of his charges in Laconia District Court on Monday.
