To The Daily Sun,

Some people approach difficult problems by first taking the time to truly understand them. They read, listen to different perspectives, ask hard questions, and then work toward practical solutions. They don’t simply accept the party line. They think for themselves.

Karen Burnett-Kurie is one of those people.

Karen is running for state representative in District 7, and what has always impressed me about her is the depth she brings to a conversation. She is curious. She asks thoughtful questions. She wants to understand not just what people believe, but why — and what the evidence tells us.

That approach comes from a lifetime of experience in education, science, and environmental protection. Karen understands the importance of strong schools, protecting our natural resources, and making decisions based on facts rather than slogans.

She also has deep roots in the three towns she hopes to represent. Although Karen moved frequently while growing up, this area was always her family’s home base. Her grandparents bought land on Wabeek Shores in Tuftonboro, where her family still has two camps and where Karen spent her summers. As a child, she attended Camp Weetamoe in Ossipee. Later, she made the area her permanent home when she became executive director of the Lake Wentworth Foundation and bought her house in Wolfeboro.

Today, Karen is deeply involved in our community. She knows this area not simply as a candidate, but as someone whose family history, career, and community involvement are intertwined with it.

At a time when politics can seem dominated by talking points and party loyalty, I value people who are willing to listen, study an issue, ask difficult questions, and think independently.

That is the kind of approach Karen Burnett-Kurie would bring to Concord.
