To The Daily Sun,
The U.S. Constitution was officially ratified on June 21, 1788, when New Hampshire became the ninth state to approve it, meeting the requirement for adoption. Two hundred and thirty-seven years ago. Article 1, Section 4 is the Elections Clause. The Founders, at that time, saw no need to mandate term limits because they believed that elections were term limits. Elected representatives would be sacked by the people at a subsequent election when the people did not like how their elected representatives were doing their job. Sixteen states have imposed term limits on State offices. New Hampshire, like thirty-four other States, has not.
To repeat, elections are New Hampshire term limits. Control of the NH Legislature has changed six times since 2006. Elections work in NH. Voters need to turn out at elections to effect changes. The present-day challenge is that the national party in power has a playbook to make voting more difficult. The New Hampshire legislature adopted that playbook and essentially ignored constituents and has proposed bills related to obtaining absentee ballots, proof of citizenship, redistricting, counting of ballots, accessible voting for people with disabilities – all of which in some way, shape or form will place a barrier in front of some New Hampshire voter, when every vote counts. New Hampshire does not and never has had an election problem.
Now is the time to ensure you are properly registered and listed on the checklist of your Town or City. This may take some time if you made a name change or moved. It may not be easy but persevere. The days to the next election are peeling off the calendar. November 10, 2026, is the day you can vote to impose term limits on underperforming or non-performing members of the current State government.
