To The Daily Sun,

My child is grown, but I remain extremely supportive of our public school system. I resent my tax dollars going to support what amounts to theft from our public schools.

When NH Education Commissioner Frank Edelblut came to the legislature with his voucher plan initially, the cost to taxpayers seemed reasonable. Well it ain’t reasonable now. The cost this year is said to be up to $30 million and we’re looking at an estimated cost of $66 million next year. What the heck is going on?

All this money is being diverted from our public schools. This is nothing more than a subsidy for private schools and it’s draining our public schools of much-needed resources.

The name “Edelblut” translates from the German to “noble blood." Frank Edelblut is living up to his name like a nobleman of the feudal period. He is robbing from the poor and redistributing to the wealthy. Cash-strapped NH public schools are seeing their funds diverted to elite private schools. We are impoverishing our public schools. Shame on Frank Edelblut.

Education is the bedrock of our democracy. Thomas Jefferson, and the majority of our founding fathers and mothers, believed that a society founded on the rule of law and liberty was dependent upon a robust system of public education. Maybe get someone in there with common blood. Someone who actually cares about the education of all our children, not just the elite who already have the means to educate their kids privately.
