Christina Erwin: In 1 of 11 gubernatorial races nationally, vote Craig

The race for governor is tight and I wanted to remind my fellow Laconians what is on the line. Joyce Craig has served as mayor and on the school board in Manchester. She is focused on job creation, reducing violent crime, and improving access to affordable housing in our state; all key issues for our communities.

Joyce Craig wants to strengthen our public schools. The Superior Court recently ruled our funding per pupil was unconstitutionally low and raised it to ensure our schools have the needed funding. Craig backed this decision so every child can have access to a good education in our state. Kelly Ayotte supports funding private schools using taxpayer funds. This leads to defunding of public schools, limiting student access in the long run.

Joyce Craig wants to ensure Granite Staters have access to abortion services. Recently in our country, doctors have been unable to save women’s lives because they had to wait for approvals or the women weren’t “sick enough” yet. She understands abortion care is health care. Kelly Ayotte voted to defund Planned Parenthood, which provides cancer screenings, access to birth control, gynecological care, and more. Ayotte supported overturning Roe v. Wade in 2022. These choices have limited access for countless women to needed health care services.

Our governor nominates justices to the state Supreme Court. We have seen how important this is at a national level, and to ensure we have funding for schools, access to appropriate health care, and more. We want to ensure that we have people who share Granite Staters’ values on our state’s Supreme Court.

This is one of 11 gubernatorial races in the U.S. this year and is key to Democratic balance of power.
