To The Daily Sun,
I read the article last week about the Inter-Lakes School Board proposing a $37.3 million budget. With an enrollment of 929 students (K-12) this amounts to $41,150 per student. Just for reference (according to the New Hampshire Department of Education) the state average is $21,455.
The proficiency rates at this district are 44% for math and reading. This means less than half of our students meet minimum requirements for their grade level.
What are we paying for? One of the highest prices in the state for an average education? Could go to the board meeting but the last time I went, all the staff and administrators brought their spouses and friends and voted in every budget item.
Guess I'll just continue to pay my $1,748 per year in state and local education taxes (plus an extra $200+ more this year).
