To The Daily Sun,

I wholeheartedly agree with the Richard Davis's recent letter to the editor, "Trump is simply the worst president in our American history" (Sun, August 26). As a retired high school history teacher of 40 years, I too have never seen such an abuser of presidential power as the current president.

I would add to Mr.Davis's letter the observation that Trump is an incompetent, uninformed leader. In my opinion, he has shown by his actions he is in no way capable of intelligently handling the complexities of being a president. Far from being a "dealmaker," a "great businessman," his business accomplishments were built on the back of numerous financial infusions from his father, Fred Trump. In a N..Y. Times's article, "Eleven Takeaways from the Times's Investigation into Trump's Wealth",(Nov. 2, 2018), much of the myth of the "self made man theory" of Trump is explored. "In fact, The Times found, Fred Trump lent his son at least $60.7 million, or $140 million in today’s dollars. Much of it was never repaid, records show".

In another article, a great read from the New Yorker (July 25, 2020), "Donald Trump's ghostwriter tells All" by Jane Mayer. She interviewed Tony Schwartz who ghostwrote the Trump book, "The Art of the Deal" in 1987. Schwartz found Trump to be "pathologically impulsive and self-centered." Schwartz readily admits to making a Faustian bargain in writing the book. He goes on to speak of Trump's art of embellishment and the lack of an attention span, hardly positive characteristics for a president. "And that it’s impossible to keep him focussed on any topic, other than his own self-aggrandizement, for more than a few minutes, and even then . . . ” Schwartz trailed off, shaking his head in amazement. He regards Trump’s inability to concentrate as alarming in a presidential candidate. “If he had to be briefed on a crisis in the situation room, it’s impossible to imagine him paying attention over a long period of time,”

Looking at these three years of the Trump presidency, it does not take much research to reveal that the emperor has no clothes.Trump's handling of the Covid crisis is unfortunately for the United States, proof of his incompetence as an intelligent leader.
