Bruce Jenket: Nation no longer seeks truth, rather media outlet that supports political views

Why is our country so politically divided? There have always been opposing views on issues like immigration, health care, free speech, welfare, foreign policy, guns, religion, abortion, etc., but not to the degree it is today. If you are old enough and can reflect on the 1960s, '70s and '80s, people were reasonably well informed on the issues. The media sought to be fair and balanced. Both sides were given the opportunity to debate the issues and garner support based on facts.

Back then the media was comprised of 50 plus independent news channels vying for the public’s “trust.” Investigative journalism was taken seriously because the network executives knew that fake reporting would cost them viewership. Those days are gone. Today’s media is a monopoly as shown in this link: tinyurl.com/bdd6vr54. The article has a section called “The Illusion of Choice.” In it they claim “232 media executives control the information diet of 277 million Americans.”

Most have gone woke. We all know it but many ignore that truth. We also know that MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, etc., are trying to portray Donald Trump as a threat to democracy. At the same time, they suppress negative stories on the economy, illegal immigration, inflation, drug overdose deaths, crime and homelessness under the current administration.

Even more disturbing is their willingness to censor facts with irrefutable evidence. President Joe Biden was the “brand” in the family business. I have provided credible sources in previous letters hoping for debate. Unfortunately, like unbiased media reporting, debate is a lost art. We as a nation no longer seek the truth but rather the media outlet that supports our political views.

Division festers when lies and censorship replace truth and transparency. Seek the truth “and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32)
