Bruce Jenket: Critical thinking works better than propaganda

I have written several times about the difference between “stupid” and “ignorant.” Stupid is a physical disability, and ignorance is the deliberate ignoring of facts. A recent conversation with a friend helped illuminate the gray area in between. It’s called “critical thinking.”

Simply put, critical thinking is the ability to pull together facts from multiple sources and piece them together like a jigsaw puzzle to provide a full picture. We each have that ability but some more than others. People with low critical thinking skills can still be highly successful by simply doing what works over and over.

I came to this “conclusion” after a series of emails with a smart, successful, contributing member of society who insists that Jan. 6 was an insurrection. I asked the following questions:

“If it was an insurrection, why was no one ever charged with insurrection?” and “How were the protesters going to take (and hold) the Capitol with posters, flags, mace and two handguns?”

He didn’t answer either question. Didn’t even try. He just repeated it was an insurrection. His final reply included the fact that the protesters are receiving long sentences. That fact is true and sets up the “reverse” logic narrative MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, etc. have been promoting since Jan. 6 occurred.

If Jan. 6 was treated as “letting off some steam” like the BLM/antifa riots of 2020 it would have been out of the news in a month. Instead, the “insurrection” narrative has been repeated for nearly four years, covering up the facts that the rioters didn’t kill anyone, damages were around $1.6 million and they left within six hours. Proving Democratic propaganda works on low-critical thinking voters.

Fortunately, critical thinking works better, as 74+ million voters proved in the 2024 election. I’ll gladly debate anyone that believes otherwise.
