To The Daily Sun,

As director of of the Moultonborough Public Library, I wanted to make readers aware that Oct. 18-24 is National Friends of the Library Week, an opportunity to recognize groups around the country who support their local public libraries. In Moultonborough, we are fortunate to have an incredibly dedicated, giving, and talented group of community members who make up the Friends of the Moultonborough Library.

The Friends of the Moultonborough Library was established in 1986. Today, as they celebrate 40 years as an organization, the friends give more than $15,000 every year to enhance the library’s services. The friends support the library’s mission by providing funding for educational programs, museum passes that provide library patrons access to cultural venues, and a special One Book, One Child initiative that provides an age-appropriate book to every student at the Moultonborough Central School.

The friends offer year-round opportunities for families and adults to gather, helping to build a sense of community and support for our neighbors. This year, the friends hosted their 41st annual Book Author Luncheon with a record-breaking 100+ attendees. For more than 40 years, the Book Author Luncheon has brought literature discussions and has connected those in our rural area with published authors. The friends have also, for many years, hosted the Chocolate Fare and helped to fund seasonal family events including the Egg Hunt, Halloween Boo-levard, and Holiday Dinner and Festival, each of which draws hundreds of people for evenings of cheer.

Our Friends at the Moultonborough Library are a treasure. This week, especially, we thank them for the time and energy they give to the library and the community.
