To The Daily Sun,
It is disappointing but not surprising to see yet another politically motivated swipe at Mike Bordes for serving as a state representative and Laconia mayoral candidate. The reasoning that serving in both roles represents a conflict of interest is not only inaccurate it is hypocritical.
Let's get real clear: Our current interim mayor, Charlie St. Clair, is also a sitting state representative. Steven Bogert is a state representative as well as a city councilor. So why now is it now such a big deal when Mike Bordes steps up to serve his community in both capacities?
It's highly revealing the way some select and elect when dual service is OK depending on who it is. It's not a matter of ethics or of governance. It's political hypocrisy.
Mike Bordes has consistently advocated for Laconia whether it is advocating for local infrastructure dollars in Concord or directly assisting residents within his district. He's not asking to "ignore the city" or "favor the state." He's asking to lead with integrity, transparency, and a genuine awareness of how both governments work.
If anything, having someone who knows how to manage state budgets and stand up for local interests is a plus, not a negative. The real question isn't "Who will Mike Bordes serve?" It's, "Why are some so afraid of a leader who won't do what they're told?"
Let's put an end to the double standards and start thinking about who really is ready to fight for Laconia. We have heard nothing from Mr. Bruce Cheney about anything he is going to do differently than he has for Laconia besides the same old.
